Liverpool man accused of stealing $50 in Dollar General robbery

A Liverpool man is accused of stealing $50 from a store clerk during an afternoon robbery.

Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies say 56-year-old Stephen Distaola walked into the Dollar General store on Old Liverpool Road around 4:15 p.m. They say he told the clerk he had a gun and demanded the money. Deputies say he took the money and ran out of the store.

Distaola was later found walking on Old Liverpool Road near School Road where he was arrested. No weapons were ever seen during the robbery and Distaola did not have a weapon on him when he was taken into custody.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Distaola was arraigned in Salina Town Court on robbery charges. He is being held in the Justice Center on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond. He is scheduled to be back in court next Thursday.
