Liverpool teenage bicyclist arrested after police find loaded handgun


yracuse Police arrested a Liverpool teenager in Syracuse Saturday afternoon after they found a loaded handgun on him.

Police were responding to a 911 call about shots fired near the intersection of South Ave. at West Brighton Ave. around 4pm. A suspect was described leaving the scene on a bicycle. The officers discovered a suspect matching the description in the 500 block of Bellevue Ave.

The bicyclist was stopped and identified as 18 year old Donnell Thornton of Liverpool. The subsequent investigation revealed that Thornton was in possession of a loaded 25 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Thornton was charged with the felony of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

Thornton is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in Syracuse City Criminal Court. It was later determined that he was not involved in the original shots fired call.
