Localized flood warnings in effect

A River Flood WARNING remains in effect for the Mohawk River at Utica until further notice. Moderate flooding is occurring. Flooding will likely continue along the Mohawk River through the next couple of days.

Elsewhere in Onondaga county

In the town of Cicero, Route 298 is closed between East Taft Road and Route 31. Route 298 will remain closed until further notice.

What Does a River Flood Warning Mean

A river flood warning means that river levels will exceed flood stage on certain points along the river named at specific points named along the river. River floods can take longer to develop so they may not pose as much threat to life, but can take a much larger toll on property.

What You Should Do When a River Flood Warning is Issued

-- Move to higher ground immediately and get out of the danger area.

-- Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters.

-- Do not attempt to cross waters of unknown depth by foot, car, truck, or sports utility vehicle.

-- It only takes a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

-- If your car stalls in a flooded or low-lying area, abandon it immediately.

-- Turn around, donâ??t drown. Find an alternative route.
