Lockdown over at Oswego Elementary School after standoff

The lockdown is over at an Oswego Elementary School after a standoff near the school.

School officials tell CNYcentral the standoff ended around 4:30 p.m. and students are now being released from school.

City of Oswego police say the standoff began just after 3:00 pm when they received a call about a suicidal man with a gun at a home at 258 West 3rd Street near Kingsford Park Elementary School.

Just before 4:30 pm, police say the man voluntarily walked out of the residence and was taken into custody.

According to police, the students were never in any danger.

Buses were late taking students home. Parents and residents were being notified via the emergency contact system.

According to police, no firearm was found at the home. The man was taken into custody under the NYS Mental hygiene Law. No criminal charges have been filed against him.
