      Lockheed Martin in Owego awarded Navy contract extension

      Senator Chuck Schumer announced Tuesday that Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Sensors in Owego has received a Navy contract award totaling over $13,516,318. The contract will extend a previous contract data and software systems upgrades of MH-60R helicopters.

      Schumer says the contract will improve the ability of the helicopter to transmit data, allowing it to provide more information to military commanders.

      The MH-60R helicopter is by the U.S. Navy for anti-submarine warfare in open ocean zones.

      The work is set to place at the Owego location and is expected to be completed in June 2015.

      "This federal contract means our troops will benefit from the best military systems in the world, all while investing in Lockheed Martin and its workers in Owego where these helicopters are made," said Schumer in a media release.

      Lockheed Martin employs approximately 4,000 employees at their Systems Integration ?? Owego location.
