Man accused of killing Alexandra Kogut back in court
The man accused of killing a New Hartford native was back in court on Rochester this morning.
21-year-old Clayton Whittemore is charged with beating his girlfriend,18-year-old Alexandra Kogut, to death in her SUNY Brockport dorm room last September.
Investigators say Whittemore, a Utica College student, admitted to beating Kogut to death with a curling iron. He has pleaded not guilty. In the statements, Whittemore told a jail deputy, "She started pushing me and yelling at me. So I pushed her back against the wall to get her to stop. She wouldn't stop pushing me, so I started punching her and just snapped. I kept hitting her over and over with my fists."
Our affiliate in Rochester reports four witnesses took the stand during Friday's suppression hearing. The goal is to determine whether statements given by several witnesses will be admissible at trial.
Whittemore was arrested at a New York State Thruway rest area hours after the murder. His trial is scheduled to begin on September 30.
