Baldwinsville man taken into custody after fleeing scene of crash on Thruway
SYRACUSE, N.Y. —
An accident on Interstate 90 attracted a large police presence and temporarily shut down a lane of the thruway Friday morning.
The accident happened around 3:20 a.m. between the Electronic Parkway and Oswego Road exits on I-90 westbound. After the accident, authorities began to search for a suspect who fled the scene of the crash.
Less than an hour later the driver was located and taken into custody at the Holiday Inn located on Electronics Parkway, just below the Thruway, state police said. The suspect was identified by troopers as 42-year-old Daniel Godinez of Baldwinsville. Our crews on the scene caught video of Godinez being handcuffed and loaded into an ambulance.
State police said Godinez's blood is being tested and he is at an area hospital being treated for minor injuries. Godinez is facing charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident and DWI, troopers said.
One lane of the Thruway was closed for several hours while police investigated the scene. It reopened more than five hours after the crash.
The incident is under investigation.
