A man wanted on a violation of New York state parole crashes into a police car and leads police on a chase in Ithaca.

It happened Wednesday when Ithaca Police tried to stop the suspect, 30-year-old Corbin Whyte, in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Floral Ave.

Whyte refused to get out of his vehicle, and then drove forward towards the officers.

His vehicle hit an unmarked Ithaca Police vehicle, that had an officer inside, pushing it out of the way before continuing south on Floral Ave.

Police say when Whyte fled the area, he struck another vehicle on Floral Ave., causing moderate injuries.

Officers tried to stop Whyte on Floral Ave. as he continued to speed away.

His vehicle had a flat tire from the two crashes, and he crashed into a guard rail on Route 13 near the 34/96 split.

Police say Whyte ran away from the wreck into a wooded area, where he was caught and taken into custody.

Whyte was sent to Tompkins County Jail on a warrant on the New York state parole violation.

Charges are pending police investigation.
