A North Syracuse Police Officer was savagely attacked by when he was helping victims of a four car crash on the 400 block of Main Street on Monday.
Investigators say an officer was responding to the scene of the crash, caused by a person having a medical emergency. The officer was aiding a victim of the crash when he was attacked by 33-year-old Danon L. Edwards, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the accident, police say.
Investigators say the attack was sudden and completely unprovoked. Edwards continued to act violently toward officers who were called in as backup by several witnesses to the attack. Officers eventually had to use a Taser on Edwards.
The officer sustained several serious injuries, including a broken jaw.
Edwards was charged with assault, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. He is being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center in lieu of $50,000 cash/bond bail.
