56-year-old sex offender Alvin Dan Riddle was arrested in Chadwicks after a brief investigation by the New Hartford Police Department and U.S. Marshalls.
The New Hartford Police says that it received a tip that a person matching Riddle's description was living in Chadwick's under an alias.
It was revealed that Riddle had warrants in three states-Arizona, Washington and North Carolina-for failing to register as a sex offender. That violated the federal Adam Walsh Act, which requires sex offenders to register when moving from one state to another. The investigation also revealed that Riddle had set up residency in Chadwicks in late August of 2012.
The U.S. Marshalls found probable cause to charge Riddle federally and obtained an arrest warrant from the U.S. Federal Court in Syracuse. It was executed in the morning hours on Tuesday by the U.S. Marshall's Task Force, New Hartford Police and the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center.
Investigators say that riddle was convicted originally in 1993 in Arkansas for carnal abuse of an eight-year-old. He has an extensive history of criminal violence.
The U.S. Marshalls said that Riddle faces up to ten years in federal prison.
