Man badly burned in fire in Ithaca's homeless 'Jungle'

A 53 year-old man suffered critical burns in a fire in an area of Ithaca known as 'The Jungle.' The area, known for the homeless people who live there, is behind railroad tracks in the 100 block of South Fulton Street.

The fire at the homless encampent was reported first as a tent on fire around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. A Cayuga Lumber Employee helped put out the flames on the man's clothing before fire crews arrived.

Ithaca Police say the victim is in critical condition as of Wednesday evening. The Ithaca Journal Newspaper has photos of the scene, click here to see them.
