Man charged with murder in fatal Hawley Green neighborhood stabbing

A Syracuse man has been arrested and is charged with second-degree murder in connection with a stabbing on Gertrude Street in Syracuseâ??s Hawley Green neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

Talarico Young, 27, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 38-year-old Johanna Pagan. He entered a not-guilty plea.

According to the felony complaint, Young admitted during an interview with police that he stabbed Pagan. There is reported physical and/or forensic evidence that links Young to the crime.

Pagan was found dead in a vacant apartment at 121 Gertrude Street after neighbors heard her screaming for help around 3:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Officials say a person was seen running from the home.

Court papers indicate that multiple witnesses identified Young as fleeing the house after hearing Pagan screaming for help. Young was stopped by police a few blocks from the crime scene.

Police say Pagan's exact cause of death will be determined by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner.
