Man dies after confrontation with police and barn fire in Steuben County

Authorities say a body has been found inside a burning barn after an armed confrontation with police in western New York.

The Steuben County Sheriff's Office tells local media that police responded around 8:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a domestic disturbance in the village of Savona, 65 miles southeast of Rochester.

Officials say a man in the home argued with officers and displayed a rifle. He then ran to a barn on his property, which police surrounded.

Police say they heard several gunshots from inside the barn, which caught fire and became engulfed in flames.

Authorities say they found a body inside the barn. The body has been sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office in Rochester for identification.
