      Man indicted for Syracuse's first murder of 2011

      A local man who has been arrested more than 50 times has been indicted for Syracuse's first homicide of 2011.

      35-year-old Malcolm Dame of Solvay was indicted by an Onondaga County Grand Jury Thursday morning on charges of second degree murder, first degree manslaughter, and third degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is accused of fatally stabbing 21-year-old Daequan Kerce following a fight at a party early in the morning of January 1.

      Police say Kerce was attempting to break up a fight between Dame and a woman when he was stabbed in the neck. He died at the hospital a short while later.

      January 3 update:

      Police have charged a 35-year-old man with first-degree manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of another man after a fight at a party.

      Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler says the two men were at a party early Saturday when the victim, 21-year-old Daequan Kerce, tried to stop an intoxicated Malcolm Dame from fighting with a woman on the street outside. Fowler said Dame started fighting with Kerce, stabbed him in the neck, and ran off, chased by two other men.

      Kerce died at University Hospital around 2:30 a.m. Dame was arrested and taken to the Justice Center jail. Police didn't know if he had a lawyer Sunday.

      January 1 update:

      Syracuse police have made an arrest in the first homicide of 2011.

      Police have charged Malcolm Dame with manslaughter in the death of 21-year-old Daequan Kerce. The stabbing happened just before 2 am Saturday morning. Police say Dame was at a party at 1513 North Salina street where he was drinking and got into a fight with his girlfriend. He was asked to leave and after he became agressive, he was escorted out of the party. While outside, police say he started fighting with a woman and that's when the victim stepped in.

      Police say Dame stabbed Kerce in the neck. Kerce was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

      Police say the suspect has been arrested more than 50 times.

      "Malcolm Dame is clearly a person that should never be allowed back on our streets of the city of Syracuse," said Police Chief Frank Fowler.

      D ame is being held behind bars . He will be arraigned Sunday morning at 9 am.

      A 21 year old man was fatally stabbed at 1:50 this New Year's morning.

      Police say a fight broke out at a house party at 1315 North Salina Street, and spilled onto the street. near Turtle St. The victim was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 2:30 am, and so far is unidentified.

      Police are asking for anyone with information regarding the homicide to call them at 442-5222.
