Man tricks clerk, grabs cash out of register

Adam Hickey

A Bridgeport man is accused of distracting a local grocery store cashier so he could steal money from the register.

Solvay police say Adam Hickey, 22, of 8910 Ladd Drive, walked into the TOPS Friendly Market Grocery Store on West Genesee Street around 10:50 p.m. Monday. They say he distracted the cashier by telling her someone was smoking behind her, then grabbed a few bills totaling $122 from her opened cash register.

Police say Hickey then ran towards the front doors and was confronted by the store manager and an employee in the parking lot. Hickey is charged with robbery.
