Manlius church treasurer, husband accused of stealing funds

John Osborn exits court Tuesday morning.

A former church treasurer and her husband have been arrested for allegedly embezzling money from the church over the course of several years.

55-year-old John Osborn of Roe Avenue in Syracuse was arraigned in Onondaga County Court Tuesday morning on the charge of grand larceny for allegedly conspiring with his wife to steal money from the Manlius United Methodist Church.

Osborn and 55-year-old Mary Meyer, who used to be the church treasurer, are accused of writing false checks for more than $440,000 between 2008 and 2012. Osborn and Meyer were indicted by a grand jury last week.

Osborn was released without bail, pending a pretrial hearing. Meyer will be arraigned later this week, according to the court clerk.
