Manlius police arrest man accused of trying to force woman into her own trunk

Manlius Police have charged a man accused of trying to force a Fayetteville woman into the trunk of her own car.

Gregory Gottfried, 22, of Minoa, is charged with first degree sexual abuse, a felony, and forcible touching, a misdemeanor. He was arrested at his home.

Police have reason to believe the woman, who is not being identified, may have been followed home from the Wegman's on East Genesee Street in DeWitt back on March 19.

When she arrived home and was unloading groceries, police say she was accosted. There was a struggle, and police say the man took off.

Manlius police told CNY Central a major break in the case came after another woman claimed she was followed by the man. Police say she recognized the vehicle on the news and called police, handing over a license plate number.

Officers say an investigation into that case is ongoing in the Town of Clay, but would not provide a specific address.

Gottfried was arraigned in the Town of Manlius Court and sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center on $25,000 cash/$75,000 bond. He's due back in court April 2nd at 5 p.m.

Manlius Police are still asking anyone who has information about Gottfried or his 2003 gray Honda Civic to call them at 315-682-2212 or 315-682-8673.
