Marina on Seneca River is flooded as water levels rise

The Eagles Landing Marina on the Seneca River near Weedsport is mostly underwater.

Several boats needed to be rescued after the river's water levels swelled. The owner of the marina, Ron Witkowski says municipalities in the Finger Lakes are opening floodgates to lower lake levels, which is causing the flooding in the Seneca River. The owner also says State Canal Corporation has been unable to open up better lines of communication between municipalities when it comes to water levels. "You would think New York State would have power over all the other lakes...but each lake has their own powers that be and they do what they want to do."

A spokesperson for the Canal Corporation confirms that it can only control discharges from one lake, Cayuga Lake. The Canal Corporation predicts the flooding will continue for at least another week.
