Marriott hotels open for business in Armory Square

The Residence Inn and Courtyard by Marriott officially opened for business in Armory Square Tuesday afternoon. The two hotels are the first new hotels to be built in downtown Syracuse in more than 50 years.

The opening of the new hotels also marks the return of Marriott-branded hotels to downtown.

The multi-million dollar project has been in the works since March of 2012. Sixteen months and $27 million dollars later, the hotels are now open with 180 rooms available for guests on what once was an empty lot, across from Kitty Hoynes.

90,000 guests are expected to stay at the hotels each year, which will pump close to $20 million dollars into the local economy.

In the interest of full disclosure, one of the developers of the Marriott Project is our Megan Coleman's husband.
