Mayor Miner not taking stance on consolidation

Mayor Miner not taking stance on consolidation/ CNYCentral

Community leaders and legislators have come together this week to propose merging the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County.

It is a move they say could save the city $20 million a year in operating costs.

They say they want to combine the city and county governments and consolidate the Syracuse Police Department and Onondaga County Sheriff's Office.

While state senators and local business leaders are on board, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner is still not taking a position either way.

"And so what I have been saying is, I'm going to do the same thing that I'm asking people to do, I'm going to read the report, I'm going to think about the report, I'm going to ask questions -- And I think at this point it's most appropriate to let the community do that without me stepping into the middle of it," Mayor Miner said.
