The mother of a girl murdered in Chenango County is speaking out for the first time, saying says she's overwhelmed by the community support.

Mandy Martinez, of the Bronx, says she hasn't seen her daughter Jacelyn O'Connor in more than three years because she has been battling addiction.

Tuesday she came to the Town of Norwich court where both suspects had hearings.

"I can't believe everybody has come together like this. I didn't know that she meant that much to everybody," Martinez said.

Two men, James Brower and Tobias Rundstrom-Wooding, are accused of killing Jacelyn by smothering her as they raped her.

The Chenango County DA's office says Brower's two sons were O'Connor's half-brothers.

State Police say O'Connor was found dead by patrols responding to a home on County Route 33 in Norwich on Sunday, after receiving reports of an 11-year-old girl in cardiac arrest.

Troopers say Brower lived at the home.
