Motorcyclist dead after hitting car on James Street in Syracuse

Police say 38-year-old Benjamin Koss, of DeWitt, died after he was hit by a car and thrown from his motorcycle.

It happened around 8:05 Wednesday night near the intersection of James Street and Sedgwick Street in Syracuse.

Police say they responded to the scene and found the man, who looked to have sustained serious injuries after the 2009 Aprilia motorcycle that he was riding struck another vehicle.

The man was immediately taken to Upstate Hospital to be treated but later died as a result of his injuries. Police are not releasing his name until his family has been notified.

According to Syracuse Police, the initial investigation found that the man was riding his motorcycle west on James Street when he struck the rear of a 2005 Dodge Durango that was stopped and facing west on James Street at the Sedgwick Street intersection. The impact ejected the man from the motorcycle and he was thrown into the eastbound lane where he was hit by a 2008 Audi that was driving east on James Street.

Neither of the other drivers received any injuries, police say.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
