M&T Bank teller in Nedrow accused of stealing nearly $38,000 from customers

A Nedrow bank teller is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from customers.

30-year-old Irene Moraitis, of 224 Stonefield Drive, is charged with three counts of grand larceny and three counts of falsifying business records.

Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies say she stole nearly $38,000 from the M&T Bank at 6003 S. Salina Street in Nedrow. Investigators say she withdrew the money from three separate customer bank accounts.

Bank officials were tipped off when a customer reported that $20,000 had been withdrawn from his account without his knowledge. Two other customers reported similar discrepancies with their accounts.

Deputies say Moraitis forged withdrawal slips on three separate occasions to steal the money from unsuspecting bank customers.

She was arraigned Wednesday in the Town of Onondaga Court and released after posting bail. Moraitis is scheduled to be back in court on March 5.

Detectives encourage M&T customers to review their monthly bank statements and report any discrepancies to bank officials.
