Mudfest in CNY to help family of Sandy Hook victim

A Central New York family with ties to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting is holding an event to help the family of one of the victims.

Dan Williams lives in Deansboro but his niece is 3rd grader at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. While she was not physically hurt in the shooting, her friend and next door neighbor Daniel Barden was killed. The Williams family wants to help the Barden family and are organizing the Daniel Barden Highland Mudfest. The event will be held on Saturday, April 13th at the MKJ Farms in Deansboro. The event will feature a 5K run with obstacles including water and hills.

There will also be a half-pint, half-mile kids run. Kilts are requested for hose taking part. There will also be Irish music and food.

"My hope is to grow it bigger and bigger and to really hopefully do something to affect change in this country in a positive way," Organizer Dan Williams said.

Money raised will go to the Barden fund set up in Daniel's name. It will help Daniel's siblings with a scholarship fund for college and to help the family.
