North Syracuse man identified in deadly motorcycle crash, deputies say

The man who was killed in a deadly motorcycle crash in Cicero on Friday afternoon has been identified by the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say 51-year-old James Hotchkiss was killed when an SUV turned into the path of his motorcycle on Brewerton Road just after 5:00 p.m.

The SUV was attempting to make a left turn onto Crabtree Lane when the two vehicle's collided, throwing Hotchkiss from his bike, deputies said.

A nearby citizen who witnessed the crash rushed over to help and performed CPR on Hotchkiss before emergency personnel arrived.

Despite the man's efforts, Hotchkiss was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries from the crash and was taken to Upstate University Hospital.

At this time, the crash is still being investigated and no tickets have been issued.

U.S. Route 11, also known as Brewerton Road, between Highway 31 and Crabtree Lane was closed for several hours while deputies investigated.

This is the first deadly motorcycle accident of 2017 that the Sheriff's Office is investigating.
