NASA shuttle pilot mentors Central New York Boy Scouts in technology

Colonel Mike Mullane is in Syracuse Wednesday for the Boypower Dinner. He is encouraging math science & engineering programs for the scouts.

Colonel Mullane flew on Discovery and Atlantis missions with NASA. He is a three-time Space Shuttle Astronaut and Mission Specialist.

If you thought you were awestruck by the sight of the retired shuttles flying from Kennedy Space Center to Washington, D.C. and New York City last month, imagine how youâ??d feel if youâ??d actually flown on the shuttles.

Colonel Mike Mullane was at Kennedy Space Center watching â??hisâ?? shuttle leave for the last time as it headed to the nationâ??s capital.

On our noon news, he told us heâ??s saddened that budgets have forced NASAâ??s manned space programâ??s cutbacks, but heâ??s looking to the future, encouraging young people to get involved in careers in math, science and technology, including through the Boy Scouts.

Heâ??s meeting with area scouts on the STEM pilot project, at Syracuseâ??s MOST on Wednesday afternoon, ahead of the Boypower fundraiser dinner Wednesday night.
