National Weather Service trying to find out if massive Watkins Glen storm was a tornado

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service will be in the Finger Lakes region to determine if a tornado touched down during violent storms over the weekend.

Local media reports that witnesses reported seeing a twister Sunday outside Watkins Glen in Schuyler County.

Several homes were damaged and trees were knocked down, but the sheriff's office says no injuries have been reported.

The storms hit the region as hundreds of people were attending the Finger Lakes Wine Festival at Watkins Glen Racetrack.

The National Weather Service will be inspecting the damage Monday to determine if it was caused by a tornado.

Four people were killed last week in Smithfield in central New York by one of the five tornadoes that touched down in the upstate region.
