Neighborhood fight ends in stabbings, arrest

Syracuse Police say 2 people were stabbed, a pipe was also used as a weapon in a large fight between neighbors on Saturday night

Syracuse Police say a large neighborhood fight on Saturday night ended in 3 people going to the hospital, and another to the Justice Center on charges.

Police were called to 243 Loomis Avenue (off Ballantyne near Valley Drive) about 10:30 Saturday night. They report that Maurice Gilbert, 27, was stabbed once in the chest, and was also hit on the head with a pipe, leaving him with a cut on his scalp. Aubrey Smith, 37, was also stabbed in the chest. And, Nessiah Smith, 14, was sliced across his upper arm.

Police say all 3 are from Syracuse, and though they were taken to Upstate University Hospital, none of the injuries is considered life-threatening.

The suspect in the attack, 22 year old Shakeem Adams, also from Syracuse, was identified by witnesses, and is being held on assault and weapons possession charges.
