New York City's mayor says he wants to end "the reality of veterans who are homeless."
Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that it's time to make sure that "we never say no" to a veteran in need.
He spoke at a Memorial Day ceremony at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
Admiral Bill Gortney of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command said it was fitting to honor "our nation's heroes" on the Intrepid. The ship saw combat across the world.
Navy veteran Stanley Wright of the Bronx said he's here today because somebody else probably took a bullet for him. He says the real heroes are those who "paid the ultimate sacrifice."
