ICY Roads.jpg

A WINTER STORM WARNING has been issued for the following counties:
Jefferson and Lewis counties until 2AM Monday

This WINTER STORM WARNING has been issued for heavy mixed precipitation. Both sleet and ice will accumulate through early Monday, causing major travel issues and some possible power outages.

If your area has a WINTER STORM WARNING, here is what you should do:
-- Significant winter weather will be occurring in the warned area. Be prepared for difficult and hazardous travel at times in the warned area.
-- Keep an eye on Interactive Doppler and Triple Doppler radars on CNYcentral.com.
-- Keep your phone with your CNYcentral mobile app turned on so if warnings are issued you will know.
-- Periodically check NBC-3, CBS-5 and CW-6 for updates on the weather and possible issuance of lake effect snow warnings and advisories.
-- Know which county you live in, and where you are in relation to other counties, especially if you are travelling.
-- Have a winter storm kit ready in your car in case you are stranded.

--
A winter weather ADVISORY is in effect for most of Central New York. This advisory is in effect for the following counties
Oneida, Madison, Chenango, and Otsego Counties until 6 AM Monday.

A winter weather ADVISORY is issued in this case because rain will fall as freezing rain with temperatures near and below 32 degrees. This will allow for ice accumulation to occur in the advised counties. However, amounts should not be severe or extremely substantial for most places including the Syracuse area. However, travel difficulties will occur due to icy roads. Be prepared for slick and slippery conditions, especially on untreated roads. In addition, parts of Jefferson and Lewis counties and points north towards the Canadian border will have more in the way of sleet and snow mixing with some snow accumulation of that as well.

If your area has a winter weather advisory, here is what you should do:
-- At least some light to potentially moderate ice accumulation will be occurring in the advised area and in some other areas nearby.
-- Be prepared for some hazardous to icy road and driving conditions in the advised area.
-- There is a chance for some localized power outages if enough ice buildup occurs and causes power lines to fall or if tree branches fall on to power lines.
-- Have a battery operated radio, and several flashlights available and in working order in case of a power outage.
-- Make sure you have fresh batteries on hand and several replacements so you are able to use flashlights often.
-- Make sure to keep your cell phone charge up throughout the day in case you are unable to charge it later.
-- Keep a fresh cell phone bank/block on hand and charged up in case you do need to recharge your cellphone.
-- Keep an eye on Interactive Doppler and Triple Doppler radars on CNYcentral.com and on the exact air temperature.
-- Keep your phone with your CNYcentral mobile app turned on so if warnings are issued you will know.
-- Periodically check NBC3, CBS5 and CW6 for updates on the weather and possible issuance of lake effect snow warnings and advisories.
-- Have a winter storm kit ready in your car in case you are stranded.
