A New Jersey duo is accused of trying to smuggle more than $10,000 worth of heroin into Central New York.
Investigators stopped 34-year-old Richard Fleming and 22-year-old Keyera Payne as they were driving north on I-81 through Lafayette Tuesday.
They seized 31.5 grams - 21 bricks - of heroin from their car, and arrested the duo.
Fleming and Payne were arraigned on drug charges in Lafayette Town Court, and sent to the Onondaga County Justice Center on $25,000 bail each.
Investigators had been tracking their movements for a while, and say the heroin was headed to Syracuse.
Members of the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service, New York State National Guard Counter Drug Program, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department and the District Attorney's Office assisted in the investigation. Those organizations make up the DEA HIDTA Heroin Strike Force.
