New Jersey security guard arrested for sexually assaulting Syracuse teen on school trip

A New Jersey man is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage from Syracuse while he was on a school field trip.

The Bergen County Special Victims Unit arrested Jose Olivares, 25, last week, after investigating a 16-year-old boy's claims that Olivares forced him to engange in sexual activity at the teen's hotel room in Rutherford, New Jersey, last week.

Investigators say it happened in the early morning hours of September 15.

Investigators say Olivares was a security guard at the hotel where the Syracuse students were staying; he was specifically tasked with watching over the students. The 16-year-old said Olivares was his hotel room and forced him to have sex against his will. The teen told a chaperone, who called Rutherford Police. The Special Victims Unit handled the investigation, and Olivares was arrested two days later at his Jersey City home.

Olivares is charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child
. He is being held in the Bergen County Jail on $100,000 bail. He must not contact the victim and must also surrender his passport.

Rutherford is about 10 miles north of Jersey City and about 13 miles west of New York City.
