New LED lighting at Thruway toll booths and service areas saves $2 million a year
The state Thruway Authority has switched over to more energy efficient LED lighting at 20 toll barrier and plazas and plans more upgrades to save money.
The authority says it expects to cuts the cost of its $2 million-a-year electric bill by about 20 percent with the new technology.
The plan is to eventually make the changes at all 60 toll plazas and 26 maintenance yards. The authority says it's also working with a contractor to upgrade lighting at the Chittenango Travel Plaza.
