New Symphony has Sunday concert, plans to announce new name and season schedule

Syracuse's reorganizing Symphony group plays Sunday afternoon, and plans to announce its new name and winter-spring concert schedule

The group that's getting ready to be the Syracuse area's new symphony is not waiting for its formal launch: there's a concert Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at Inspiration Hall (the old St. Peter's Church at 709 James Street in Syracuse).

There are also big plans for the renaming, and a winter-spring concert season. Suzie Jacobs, longtime violinist with the orchestra says the current organizational name, Musical Associates of Central New York, sounds like a medical practice, and hints the new name will be easier to remember.

The group has already hired a marketing director and is in the process of developing a new website, though information can be found now on the Symphony Syracuse site about upcoming holiday concerts, including a staging of the Nutcracker Ballet next weekend.

The new Symphony name, and concert schedule will be announced at the holiday gala concert on December 14th.
