New York State trooper helps deliver baby in car in Delaware County

A New York State trooper got a chance to bring a life into the world last week, helping to deliver a baby inside a woman's car.

The mother-to-be went into labor in her car around 11 p.m. last Tuesday.

Trooper Timothy West, who is based in the Oneonta barracks, responded to the 911 call for help. He found the woman's car on the side of the road on Highway 28 in Franklin, which is in Delaware County.

Trooper West helped the woman give birth in her car. He wrapped the baby in a blanked and waited with them until Franklin and CMT EMS crews arrived on the scene.

The mother and her baby were taken to AO Fox Hospital by ambulance. They appeared to be in good health.
