Newark woman dies after being pinned by tractor
Newark, N.Y. - A Wayne County woman died Wednesday after being pinned by a tractor, Newark Police report.
The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday on Bloom Road.
Police say the victim, Carol Boyd, 59, was found trapped under a tractor. They said she had suffered severe trauma.
Investigators say Mrs. Boyd had been sitting in a lawn chair while her husband, Ray Boyd, was trying to jump the tractor’s battery. Without warning, police say the tractor started and lurched in reverse, hitting Mrs. Boyd with the rear hitch.
Firefighters with the Newark Volunteer Fire Department removed Mrs. Boyd from underneath the tractor. She was taken to Newark Wayne Hospital, where she died.
In a statement released Wednesday, Newark Police Chief David Christler said no criminal actions are pending in the case. He added, “This type of accident is extremely rare but none the less tragic and unforeseen.”
