News anchor Michael Benny's brother describes Boston bombings situation

I got the call this afternoon as we were already in full "breaking news" mode in the newsroom. The details from Boston were sketchy, but we knew it would dominate our coverage starting at 5 o'clock.

When my cell phone rang, and I saw that it was my brother, my gut was to ignore it. He would understand.

Instead, I took the call and all he said on the other end of the line was, "Iâ??ve talked to Mom and Dad, they know I'm fine, I wanted you to know too."

Joe was in Boston to cheer on friends in the Boston Marathon. He's an avid runner and it is no surprise that he was there, although as you might imagine, when a sibling lives in another place, you don't always keep track of their every move.

In a phone interview for CBS 5, Joe told me, "I thought something had collapsed," then we just needed to get out of there. "This is an attack on the sport I love and the city I love," so that has dominated my thoughts.
