North Carolina man arrested after gambling raid in Syracuse

A North Carolina man was arrested after a gambling raid at an internet cafe in Syracuse.

The Onondaga County Sheriff says Chan Ji Byung, 51, of Raleigh, North Carolina was arrested after deputies executed an online gambling search warrant on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division Detectives worked with the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office, the U.S. Marshals and New York State Police on a months-long investigation. On Wednesday they executed an online gambling search warrant of an internet cafe named News Star Entertainment LLC, located at 3014 Erie Boulevard East in Syracuse.

The warrant execution resulted in the arrest of Byung. He's charged with Operating an Unlawful Electronic Sweepstakes and Promoting Gambling. The sheriff says $2,330 in cash and 55 computers were also seized.

Byung was arraigned in the City of Syracuse Court on Thursday.

According to the sheriff, the investigation is continuing.
