North Syracuse man shoots himself while teaching his wife how to use a gun

A North Syracuse man accidently shot himself while teaching his wife how to use a gun.

Police in North Syracuse say the shooting was reported 306 Belmore Drive around 7:00 a.m. Friday morning.

69-year-old William T. Kopko Jr. called 911 to report that he had accidently shot himself in the leg while showing his wife how to use a handgun.

Police say the shooting appears to be accidental and charges are not being considered. Police have secured three handguns, which were listed on Kopkoâ??s valid New York State Pistol Permit, for safekeeping.

No other individuals were injured.

Kopko was transported to Upstate Hospital for medical treatment for a non-life threatening injury.
