The man at the helm of the North Syracuse Central School district is retiring for the second time. Superintendent Dr. Jerry Melvin made the announcement Friday morning.
Dr. Melvin retired for the first time in 2000. While he was in retirement, he served as interim superintendent for five local school districts while they searched for permanent replacements. In 2005, Melvin was again named superintendent for North Syracuse schools and he returned full time.
Melvin came to central New York in 1978 as superintendent in the Liverpool School District, where he served for 19 years, before joining the North Syracuse District in 1992.
Dr. Melvin now plans to retire again at the end of the school year.
