Northern New York woman admits to smuggling turtles and reptiles into Canada

Federal authorities say a northern New York woman has admitted smuggling turtles and reptiles into Canada from the U.S.

U.S. Attorney Richard Hartunian says 28-year-old Olivia Terrance of Hogansburg pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to bring hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of the endangered and threatened species across the border for sale to collectors and dealers in 2009 and 2010.

He said she was caught by investigators who tracked her moving a shipment by boat.

Terrance is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 5 in Syracuse. She faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The plea deal was announced Wednesday.
