Norwich school employee accused of putting camera in locker room

A Chenango County man is under arrest after police say he put a camera inside a school locker room.

According to Norwich Police, officers arrested 28-year-old Jonathan L. Aikins of Silver Street in Norwich Thursday afternoon on charges of felony second degree unlawful surveillance. Aikins is accused of placing an audio and video recording device inside a locker room at Norwich High School. Police say they were alerted to the device by school officials, and there were people in the locker room at the time that the device was found.

Aikins is an employee of the Norwich School District, but police would not specify what his job is. The Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin reports he is a teaching assistant, while the Chenango County Evening Sun says he is a swimming coach.

Police say they obtained a warrant and searched Aikins TM home. They would not say what evidence was taken from the home.

Aikins was arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 bail. He is scheduled to return to court on June 7.

Police say further charges may be pending.
