We know its coming; the closing of the New Process Gear factory in Dewitt.
We are now getting word of the latest round of layoffs, as the company moves toward the plant's demise. In a report filed with the New York State Labor Department, the plants owners, Magna International, informed the state that 220 workers would be laid off between January 17th and January 30th of next year.
It did not specify a date for the closing of the plant. The company announced last year it would close the factory after workers rejected proposals to substantially cut wages and benefits.
