Off-duty Trooper accused of crashing into trees while drunk

A member of the New York State Police force is accused of driving drunk after crashing into two trees in Steuben County, not far from Corning.

State Police say 27-year-old Alex Krawczyk, of Painted Post, was driving west on Paultney Street, through Riverside around 2:00 a.m. Thursday, when he lost control of his car. Investigators say he drove off the road and slammed into two trees before rolling the vehicle over.

Trooper Krawczyk is assigned to the State Police barracks in Painted Post. He has been a member of the force for less than two years, and was off-duty at the time of the crash.

Right now, Krawczyk and the passenger who was riding in his car, 26-year-old Shaun Fallon, are in Robert Packer Hospital just over the New York Pennsylvania border in Sayre, Pennsylvania. They were flown to the hospital following the crash, but are expected to be okay.

Krawczyk faces a DWI charge. There is no word on what will happen in terms of his job with the State Police.
