Officers respond to possible suicide attempt in Hastings

Taylor aimed gun at police, before units fired back.

Authorities say a man is recovering from a hand injury after being shot during a confrontation with police in the Town of Hastings.

They say troopers and other officers checking a report of a suicidal man found 47-year-old Daniel Taylor, who fired a shot from a long gun from a home in the Oswego County town of Hastings.

State police say that about an hour later, a trooper fired a shotgun at Taylor when he pointed the gun out a second-story window. Taylor was hit on the hand, dropped the gun and surrendered just after 5 p.m. .

Taylor was taken to a hospital. He's expected to be charged with menacing a police officer, a felony, and reckless endangerment when he's released.
