Officials: Sheriff's deputy shoots self in leg at Justice Center
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after they say a sheriff's deputy accidentally shot himself in the leg.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Monday, officials say Custody Department Deputy Justin Brannock accidentally discharged his personally owned firearm while inside the employee locker room at the Onondaga County Justice Center in Syracuse. They say Deputy Brannock was un-holstering his firearm when it discharged. He was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay. No other injuries were reported.
Deputy Brannock has been a member of the Custody Department for nearly five years and is currently assigned to the Booking Section.
The incident is under investigation.
