Authorities say a 22-year-old upstate New York man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated after a one-car crash that killed one person and left two others hospitalized.
State police say Ryan Lewis, of Harpursville, was driving early Sunday morning on Afton Lake Road in the Chenango County town of Afton when he crashed on a curve and hit a tree. He was operating a 2006 Subaru Impreza.
Troopers say his front-seat passenger, 24-year-old Joelyn Sines of Harpursville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two backseat passengers, Mitchell D. Birch and Caleb J. Gregory, each 22 and from Afton, are in stable condition at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.
Monday, police say Lewis is being treated at the same hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Lewis is scheduled to appear in the Town of Afton Court at a later date. District Attorney Joseph McBride said he didn't know if Lewis had a lawyer.
The investigation is continuing.
