One dead in three-vehicle crash in Cayuga County

State police say one person is dead and two others are injured after a three-vehicle crash on a Cayuga County road.

Troopers say the accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. Thursday on state Routes 5 and 20 in the town of Montezuma, 28 miles west of Syracuse. Police say an eastbound vehicle crossed the center lane and collided with a westbound vehicle. The westbound vehicle was then hit by another vehicle.

Troopers say the passenger in the first vehicle that was struck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of that vehicle was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Troopers are withholding their names until family notifications can be made.

Troopers say the woman driving the vehicle that caused the crash, Rebecca Lackey of Phelps, suffered minor injuries.The operator of the third vehicle, Lindsey Leisenring, declined treatment at the scene.

Additionally a horse that was in a trailer being towed by Leisenringâ??s vehicle sustained minor injuries. Leisenring made arrangements and had the animal picked up at the scene.
