State Police are investigating a deadly accident that killed a pedestrian near the State Fairgrounds in the Town of Geddes on Sunday morning.
Police say 35-year-old Jeffrey Proietti of Syracuse was participating in a 12-hour endurance challenge with 15 other people.
The group started walking from Onondaga Lake in Syracuse at 9 p.m. last night. At around 6:45 a.m., the group was walking east on State Fair Boulevard when Proietti was hit from behind by a Chevy Malibu.
The driver, 38-year-old Jody Stock, of Martville, pulled over and stayed at the scene. Onondaga County 911 said the accident happened at the 690 off-ramp by Crucible Steel.
Proietti was taken to Upstate Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing.
A spokesperson for the Komen Race for the Cure tells us Proietti was not a participant in this morning's race at the State Fairgrounds.
