One woman dead, one in critical condition after Syracuse crash

Syracuse Police are investigating a crash involving a truck and two pedestrians Friday afternoon.

Police spokesman Sgt. Gary Bulinski tells CNY Central that around 1:15 p.m. Barbara Cook, 72, of Adams and her daughter Jennifer Cook, 43, of Providence, Rhode Island were walking down the 900 block of East Genesee Street when they were hit by a pickup truck. Bulinski says the women were walking in the street when a Mazda pickup truck suddenly veered to the left, hit the women and came to rest in a snow bank.

The two women were taken to Upstate University Hospital. Police say Barbara is now listed in critical condition. Jennifer was treated but later died as a result of her injuries.

Police identified the driver of the truck as James McDonald, 86, of Chittenango. The cause of the crash is still under investigation and no tickets have been issued at this time.
